Foreign
chefs held a cooking demonstration at the third installation of the Organic Weekend
Market at the corte area of The District Northpoint-Ayala mall on March 21 to
22.
Chef
Ton-Trong Ho of Le Bistrot Francais was featured in “Cook Like the French”
while Chef David Lopez of Kome Kome and Txacho was featured in Vegetarian
Spanish Cooking Demo.
Other
highlights included talks on “Sustainable Agripreneurship” by Ramon Peñalosa of
Peñalosa Farms, “Bee Keeping 101” by Arthur Uychiat and the Negros Bee Keepers,
and “Personal Care or Health Risk: Truth Behind Beauty Products” by Kay Obrien
of Mkay Organics.
Also,
local exhibitors showcased certified organic fresh produce and all-natural
processed products, local artisanal food, homegrown native products, vegetarian
dishes, and specialty diets; organic poultry and livestock; organic farming
inputs, supplies, equipment and technology; and handicrafts, textiles and
clothing.
For two nights,
the event held a “Slow Food Potluck Dinner,” which featured live jazz music.
The potluck dinner gathered local organic farmers, restaurateurs, chefs,
entrepreneurs, advocates and other food enthusiasts.
Organizer
Ramon Uy Jr., president of the Organik na Negros! Organic Producers and
Retailers Association (ONOPRA), the next display of organic food and products
will be during the Panaad sa Negros Festival on April 13 to 19.
After the
Panaad, the Weekend Market will hopefully be back at The District, he added.
The
previous two Weekend Markets at The District were held on January 24 to 25 and
February 21 to 22.
