The 12th National Organic Agriculture will be held in Negros Occidental on November 2015.
Undersecretary for Special Concerns Bernadette Romulo-Puyat of the Department of Agriculture (DA) stressed that Negros Occidental is the only organic province in the country and "it's only fitting that the organic convention will be held here."
She stressed that the organic convention held in Davao last year gathered 1,600 organic practitioners and advocates from the whole country.
"I want them to come in Negros Occidental so they will see the best practices here, so they can do it in their provinces," she said.
She said that whenever she will be ask to present a data on organic farming during a senate hearing, she would always present a data she could get from Negros.
"Every year, there is an increase in sales on organic farming, so it means that there is a need for organic farming," she said.
Puyat said that 80 to 90 percent of the people are already aware of organic farming, but the challenge for the DA is to bring down the prices of the organic products.
"Many are aware and they eat organic and healthy foods but the challenge is the prices. If there are many organic production, it will lower down the prices so everybody from all classes can afford healthy foods," she said.
